Cut out with jigsaw held vertically.
The plate overlap into the cockpit area is large enough to accommodate even smaller size cockpits.
Masking for coaming rim fillet.
The coaming rim is best done with "bendable" plywood 1/8" thick. This coaming is pieced from several sections hot glued with scrap tabs of wood. Some builders also make it from vertical strips but this is the fastest solution.

The two piece coaming rim plywood comes in the Stitch and Glue Kit.
After the epoxy fillet is applied, the masking leaves a very clean edge.
Bias cut strip of 4oz. Glass is applied to the semi hardened fillet.
Coating with epoxy.
I waited to do the very last filler coat on the deck at the same time as the coaming rim - more efficient. Note the smooth reflection of the surface due to the intermittent sanding.
All epoxy work on the deck is now done.
Ready to mold carbon coaming. Since the deck of the Cirrus is "peaked" I rounded the coaming by taping a piece of Formica sheet over the peak and filled the hollows with wood scrap.

Builders of One Ocean Kayaks can find the carbon coaming construction in the Builders' Pages.
Trimming the coaming rim to the right height with a Japanese pull saw.
A little sanding and the rim is prepared for coaming construction.
